It’s a bit of a farce though — headline says “Pope drives in FIAT 500L to show he’s man of the people,” but the reality is “Pope drives in FIAT 500L surrounded by 900 expensive armored gas-guzzling SUVs”

Those vehicles have Vatican license plates on them. My guess is they are American vehicles provided by the U.S. government for use by the Swiss Guards.

Yeah, I was trying to keep the focus on the car and not the decision. I think it’s funny that he’s always opting for “lesser” vehicles.

And even with the brigade, I’d still feel better in the limo than the Fiat.
